After watching Transformers or Independence Day like movies we all thought for once of saving the world from aliens & now NASA is giving the same opportunity which looks crazy but there is a job opening in the federal space agency for the place of Planetary Protection Officer who’s job will be protecting Earth from extraterrestrial life, in case of any threats to the human era.
The Job listing states “Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration,”.
Though we know the federal space agency maintains impervious policies for planetary protection which is applicable to space flight missions that may deliberately or inadvertently carry Earth organisms and organic constituents to the planets or other solar system bodies, and any mission employing spacecraft, which are intended to return to Earth and its biosphere with samples from extraterrestrial targets of exploration. This policy is based on federal requirements and international treaties and agreements.
According to the job description the applicants must be a US citizen, vast knowledge in physical science or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, or electronics & the most important thing they are looking for people who have advanced knowledge of Planetary Protection, its requirements and mission categories.
With only two full-time like roles in the world — one with NASA and the other with the European Space Agency the current PPO of Nasa is Catharine Conley.
The significance of the job role also pays a pretty good amount between $124,406 and $187,000 annually & comes with a “secret” security clearance which will make you the guy feel like “Men in Black”.
You can apply through USAjobs.gov from July 13 through August 14 for the job role & if you are not entirely qualified but curious to be a part of it then you can also apply for the Planetary Protection Course offering by NASA to 14 students in November on a first-come, first-served basis.
